Painter

Art has always been my way of making sense of the world. Through oil painting, I find a sense of grounding, presence, and connection. My work is shaped by personal experiences, life’s unpredictability, and the inspiration I draw from my students as a high school art teacher. Their curiosity and creativity continually remind me why art matters.

Over time, my focus has shifted from portraiture toward landscapes and animals. These subjects give me a way to explore resilience, solitude, and peace. During the pandemic, themes of isolation and hope became especially meaningful in my work. My painting of a humpback whale gliding through sunlight in the open ocean reflects that balance between being alone and finding light. More recently, I have been drawn to creating moments of calm, offering space to pause amid the demands of everyday life.

I am drawn to oil paint for its depth, richness, and ability to convey light and atmosphere. Through color, contrast, and the interplay of detail and expressive brushwork, I explore both the presence of my subjects and the emotions they evoke. I want each painting to invite a closer look and leave room for viewers to bring their own memories and interpretations.

For me, a painting is more than an image. It is an opportunity for connection, reflection, and conversation. My hope is that my work offers viewers a moment of stillness, a sense of recognition, or a renewed appreciation for the beauty around them.
